Job Description

Weld World is seeking an experienced Supplier Quality Inspector (SQI) on behalf of one of its international clients. The inspector will be deployed full-time on-site at a leading valve manufacturer in Hengelo, Netherlands, to perform source inspection and quality surveillance activities on medium and high-pressure valves. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role requiring strong technical knowledge of industrial valves, special processes (foundry, forging), NDT methods, and applicable codes and standards.

Roles and Responsibilities

Source Inspection & Quality Surveillance

  • Perform source inspections at the supplier's facility in accordance with client quality requirements, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and purchase order requirements.
  • Monitor and witness key manufacturing hold/witness points: material receiving, casting/forging, machining, welding, heat treatment, assembly, NDT, pressure testing and painting/coating.
  • Verify product compliance with contractual requirements, technical specifications and applicable regulations prior to shipment release.
  • Plan, organize and coordinate inspection activities in alignment with the supplier's production schedule and project milestones.

Valve & Special Processes Technical Oversight

  • Review and verify manufacturing documentation: material certificates (MTRs, EN 10204 3.1/3.2), WPS, WPQR, NDT reports and dimensional reports.
  • Monitor and assess special processes such as casting, forging and heat treatment to ensure compliance with approved procedures, material properties and acceptance criteria.
  • Witness and validate hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure tests, seat leakage tests, functional/torque tests and fugitive emission tests.
  • Verify compliance with applicable valve standards: API 600, API 602, API 6D, ASME B16.34, EN 12516 and PED 2014/68/EU.
  • Ensure full material traceability from raw material through to final product marking.

NDT Oversight

  • Witness and evaluate NDT activities: UT, RT, PT, MT and VT.
  • Review NDT procedures for compliance with applicable codes, standards and client specifications.
  • Interpret NDT reports and assess acceptance or rejection of detected indications.
  • Verify that NDT personnel qualifications and certifications are valid and compliant.

Non-Conformance & Deviation Management

  • Identify, document and report non-conformances (NCRs) in a timely manner.
  • Follow up on corrective and preventive actions with suppliers until full closure.
  • Support root cause analyses (RCA) and participate in technical deviation resolution.
  • Escalate critical quality issues to the client and Weld World management when necessary.

Reporting & Communication

  • Issue detailed inspection reports after each hold or witness point.
  • Participate in pre-inspection meetings, project kick-off meetings and progress reviews.
  • Maintain inspection records and ensure complete documentation packages prior to shipment.
  • Provide regular feedback on supplier performance, manufacturing progress and identified risks.

Required Profile

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in supplier quality inspection within the energy, power generation or oil & gas sectors.
  • Familiarity with the quality requirements of major OEMs such as GE, Siemens or equivalent would be highly appreciated.
  • Proven hands-on experience in industrial valve inspection (gate, globe, check, needle, safety/relief valves).
  • Strong knowledge of special processes: foundry (casting) and forging — including process control, acceptance criteria and defect recognition.
  • Experience in welding inspection and NDT oversight.

Certifications (at least one required)

  • CSWIP 3.1 or 3.2 (Welding Inspector) — strongly preferred.
  • IWT (International Welding Technologist) or IWE (International Welding Engineer).
  • NDT Level 2 in one or more methods (UT, RT, PT, MT).
  • BGAS-CSWIP or NACE coating inspection certification.
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor.

Technical Knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge of applicable valve codes and standards: API 600, API 602, API 6D, ASME B16.34, PED 2014/68/EU and EN standards.
  • Thorough understanding of casting and forging processes, associated defects and inspection methods.
  • Ability to review WPS/WPQR, witness welding operations and evaluate weld quality.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs and technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with material specifications (ASTM, EN) applicable to valve components.
  • Knowledge of HRSG systems or boiler/pressure equipment is a plus.

Languages & Requirements

  • English: fluent (mandatory — working language)
  • French: a plus
