Role Purpose:

• To supervise and report the progress of offshore cable installation and repair
projects on ASN and 3rd party vessels.
• Ensuring the safe and timely delivery of all marine engineering technical 
services and solutions in the ASN fleet.
• Together with the Fleet Services team in ASN Marine, develop and implement 
engineering solutions for subsea cable infrastructure installation including 
the installation of associated subsea hardware both in-house and external 
third-party solutions. 
• To support the LDA offshore vessel teams to achieve the installation or repair 
SOW and to drive and ensure a positive awareness of offshore QHSE 
standards.

Role Description:

During operations the Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) Offshore Operations 
Superintendent (OOS) reports to the ASN Project Marine Manager (PMM) 
representing him/her and ASN’sinterests during all aspects of offshore operations and 
installation. He/she should have the necessary technical expertise and previous 
offshore experience, being highly knowledgeable with the requirements for all aspects 
of fibre-optic cable marine installation in telecoms and O&G operations. It is the 
PMM’s responsibility to brief the OOS prior to commencement of the operation with 
specific focus on any identified installation risks or commercial impact.
The prime responsibilities of the OOS are:
• Operations Management
- Review previous operational meeting minutes to assess the vessel for project 
readiness, reporting on the technical status of the lay spread equipment.
- Monitoring and reporting daily progress of the operation, ensuring the contractually 
agreed plan of work, procedures, controls and work methods are followed and 
adhered to.
- Comprehension of Survey operations is highly valued to provide support to the
onboard Survey Team Leader to verify project parameters and installation protocol.
Having the ability to provide support with regards to complex installation activities 
such as Branching Unit deployment calculations: 
- for verification of cable re-routing in the context of risk mitigation during 
installation activities (i.e. to safeguard subsea assets from fish aggregating 
devices (FADs). 
- for O&G projects, a strong understanding of geodetics, projections, 
metrology and application of dimensional control survey offsets is required to 
verify the project parameters prior to commencement of operations. 
- Interfacing with the ASN Marine Offshore Operations Manager (OOM), the vessel 
Master/Operations Manager agreeing all operational and technical matters, to ensure 
a favourable outcome for all aspects of the operation (HSE, Technical and 
Commercial).
- Reacting to dynamic situations, contributing to identifying solutions to unplanned 
events and implementing the necessary changes to the work plans to ensure that the 
safety of the operations is maintained by all involved, and to ensure a technically 
acceptable outcome to ASN and the Client. Communicating the agreed solution to the 
ASN Project Marine Manager (PMM) ensuring the right methods are being used to 
implement the solution.
- Ensuring that the Client Representative is kept informed of the project status and 
changes to activities that are carried out in the field of operations and coordinating 
with the Client Representative on any SIMOPS in-field.
- On completion of an operation, hold a wash-up meeting with all the relevant parties 
onboard and issue a report/minutes of the meeting to the OOM and ASN Fleet 
Services team, plus agreed distribution list.
• Asset Integrity Management
- Ensuring the integrity of the ASN supplied submarine fibre-optic cable products is 
maintained throughout the installation or maintenance operation.
- Highlighting any issues arising from the onboard ASN fibre-optic cable Jointing and 
Testing teams to the PMM. Reporting any asset integrity issues via the IIR (Installation 
Incident Report) and MIIR (Marine Installation Incident Report) forms and discussing 
the respective reports with the ASN HSE department. This includes any asset integrity 
concerns that arise during the loading/offloading of cable and subsea assets. 
- QHSE ensuring the Health & Safety of the ASN team, and ensuring that the subcontractor complies with the contractual HSE requirements, through tool box meetings and risk assessments.
- IIRs/MIIRs must be compiled with all incidents must be reported to the PMM. A 
separate incident report will be completed for each incident irrespective of whether 
the subcontractor also submits an incident report. This is an internal report and 
should only be distributed within ASN.

Wanted profil

Experience / Qualifications:

- Marine operations experience as Master, Chief/Operations Officer or Surveyor Team 
Leader within the cable installation industry.
- Extensive familiarity and understanding of offshore installation and QHSE processes.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant offshore installation operations experience.
- Ability to identify and manage processes coordination and solutions for multiple 
stake holders across the marine operations activity.
- Highly developed documentation management skills.
- Excellent computer skills are required –high level of familiarity with MS Office Suite 
of programs including Microsoft Project and Microsoft Excel
- Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
- French language skills beneficial.
- Ability to work autonomously and in a cross-functional team environment.
- Ability to prioritise workload and work under pressure
