Role Summary

The Machine Learning Group at the Idiap Research Institute (Martigny, Switzerland) has an open PhD position to work on fundamental problems in machine learning and deep learning. The successful candidate will join an active research environment and contribute to ongoing projects in the group, while also developing their own research directions under supervision.

 

The position is fully funded for four years. Contingent on satisfactory progress, it will lead to a PhD dissertation. The candidate will be enrolled as a doctoral student at EPFL, subject to acceptance by the Electrical Engineering Doctoral School (EDEE, see http://phd.epfl.ch/applicants). Salaries follow EPFL standards.

 

The candidate will be expected to conduct research in collaboration with members of the group, with opportunities to co-author publications at major AI/ML/CV/NLP venues. The position also offers a stimulating research environment and access to an international network of collaborators.

Your profile

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science, engineering, applied mathematics, physics, or a related field
  • Strong interest in machine learning and deep learning research
  • Strong programming skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • A track record of academic excellence is a plus

 

Preferred qualifications (optional)

  • Prior research experience in machine learning or related areas
  • Publications or preprints at recognized venues (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, ACL)
  • Familiarity with modern deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch)
