Role Summary
Idiap Research Institute seeks qualified candidates for a PhD student position at the intersection of robot control, human-robot interaction, and end-user programming. This researcher will investigate geometric representations for compliant robot motions and interfaces for rehabilitation of patients with neurologic diseases as part of a Swiss SNF project. The project will include collaboration with a local physiotherapy clinic for designing robotic behaviors and interfaces to create personalized therapies for patients with neurologic diseases.
Duties include The successful PhD candidate will join the Human-centered Robotics and AI group at Idiap, under the supervision of Dr. Emmanuel Senft, Dr. Sylvain Calinon, and Dr. Jean-Marc Odobez. She/he will also become a doctoral student at EPFL (http://www.epfl.ch) conditional on a parallel application to, and acceptance by, the EPFL EDEE Doctoral School (http://phd.epfl.ch/applicants).
Appointment for a PhD position is for a maximum of 4 years, provided successful progress, and should lead to a dissertation. Starting date is to be negotiated, but expected to be September 2025.

Your profile
The ideal PhD candidate should hold a Master degree in robotics, computer science, artificial intelligence, or related fields. She or he should have a background in robot control. The applicant should also have strong mathematical and programming skills.
Required language
Fluency in English. French is a plus.
